Maximize Revenue with Expert Athena Billing

Athena’s billing service is limited and not exhaustive. Services are limited to claim submission, rejection and denial categorization and NOT resolution. For example, If a claim is denied for a simple reason like missing authorization, Athena will not look for documents and update the information on the claim, it will be assigned to the office to get that information added to the claim and resubmitted.  

Payment will be posted if EOB and ERA are accessible. If not it becomes Practice responsibility to find and upload them. Run VCC payments and confirm deposits is not done by Athena. There are many other tasks Athena assigns to practice before and after the claim is submitted to Insurance and RCM cycle closed. Most likely, you need to check your aging of claims under Athena hold bin. Check the status of appeals. If Athena is not checking your current inventory in time and delaying action on tasks assigned under Manager hold, your payments will be delayed. 

These claims should be reviewed with Athena team and the biller in your organization for final action. These may sometimes be an error on Athena’s part or incomplete information which has led them in this status. 

Enrollment tasks are created by Athena to complete the system enrollment setup for a particular payer. This includes portal access from the Practice Admin logins, updated W9 and any kind of supporting documents that are needed so that claims can be submitted & payments can be received by Athena. This step is crucial to be completed otherwise this will hold the claim for submission, remittance, ERA setup etc. 

Credentialing tasks are created to update the provider’s contract status with particular payer for a particular location. 

These credentialing tasks will keep Athena updated with the credentialing status of each provider of practice. 

When Athena receives money only with Check/EFT details, but no claim details/ EOB/ ERA, Athena will add those payments in Remittance tasks. The Billing support team needs to add the claim information on the remittance so it can be posted for the respective claim id. 

Confirm Deposits refers to an event where money is received with claim details, but Athena is not sure about the deposits. 

Practice needs to confirm their deposits with Athena. If it’s an EFT payment – revenue will not be affected since it’ll be deposited into the bank within 24 hours and needs to be confirmed to get it posted and tracked in Athena. 

Check & VCC Payments – Need to confirm the deposits and get it posted, Otherwise If the check is never deposited then practice might lose that money 

Athena will not process VCC payments. Billing Support team or the practice needs to charge the cards and give the deposit
confirmation/upload the receipt with remittance to get it posted on the claim.
